Custom Pickguards

This Rare 1950s Eastern German Herrnsdorf guitar (left) had lost it's original pickguard.

I sourced a photograph of a similar Herrnsdorf complete with pickguard (right) from which I could produce a template.

I fabricated a replica using true-to-original production techniques, such as painted-on edging.

A small corner of the pickguard had been snapped off, near the neck pick-up, and the original 'irreplacable' piece of 1950s Pearloid was lost.

Since nothing even resembling this material seems to be available anymore, I resorted to removing the hidden portion of the pickguard support.

By cutting this oblong into two triangles, I was able to rebuild the missing area.

With a bit of polishing, it blends in well, and with virtually NO wasted material!

I intend to extend the white painted edging over the next portion... one day!
